It's been a week now and I still can't feel the difference!! Damn, when will adulthood hit me?!?
I mean I'm 30....I love sneakers and can't stand wearing dress shoes....I'd rather wear a t shirt than an Armani shirt.....a sweet hoody, a denim and a t over a Versace suit any day!! It's friday night and I'm stuck at work....and I still laugh when I watch Dexter's Laboratory!!
Maybe the effect takes more than a week to settle in, who knows....Anyway last friday was my 30th and this what I did:
Was awoken by my sexy princess, dressed up (or down would be more accurate, if you know what I mean....) for the occasion, and who treated me with her oral skills......after the excitment passed, she pulled out a cake, a big box and then another smaller one!
I blew my candles, wished for the best and teared open the gifts (another childish act).....Nikon D80 and a 4GB memory stick was what I got!! Really wasn't excepting that...but WOW! you're the best, baby!! She then lets me know that she took the day off and that whatever I want is what we will do! Sweet....I'm the King of the Hill!!
The rest of the day was spent walking the streets of Geneva, having lunch buying shoes and other "unadult" apparel.....Towards the end of the after noon I went to pick my bib, or rather bibs for the 2 back to back races that were held the following day! an 18km race followed by 7.5 3 hours later......at night, my wife had their annual office dinner and since I was running the next day, I told her to go ahead and enjoy....I will stay at home and eat pasta!
Pasta, my ass! my friend calls me up to wish happy bday and lets me know that their playing poker tonight and that it would be nice if I joined....I got a race, promised myself I would rest up and have a good dinner.....I guess the cards had the best of me, cuz I played that night and came home 200 Swiss francs richer! (payed off the November rains I bought earlier that day)
So I got home at 3am and race starts at 1pm....less than twelve hours of sleep for 25kms of running through neighbooring mountains, streets and end in Geneva's old town! should be allright.....
at around 4am I feel a soft, warm naked body slide alond me that arises my senses but then I think to myself that I need some rest and that I cannot sacrifice another hour of precious sleep.....
I wake up the next morning a little hungover but happy! head to the kitchen warm up some porridge and fill the belly and tons of energy and liquids.....wil def need it!
As I head up the mountain to the race start, it's not quite raining but the sky isn't near clearing up....oh well, good thing I'm wearing long sleeves.....I see a few familliar faces and wish them good luck ....of course I do not mention that I'm racing again today.....race starts at 1:40pm....I except to arrive at 3pm so that I'll have 2 hours to recuperate before my second race!
Off we go....in total 4'028 men and women run through the Salève mountain roads for about 12kms and then we hit flat roads for another 6km before arriving in the heat of Geneva's Old Town! Fifteen minutes into the run and it starts raining...great!
I had set myself a goal of running the 18kms and 7.5kms under 2hrs! If I went over I wouldn't have made it, I kept on thinking! This was my 30th bday gift I was treating myself to, so you better man up and stick to your goals....otherwise it just ain't worth it!!
I finished in 1h21minutes......right on time, I thought! It's 3 o'clock and I still got two hours and ten minutes to kill before next race.....so after walking through finish stands, receiving race souvenir and walking under the rain I meet with my mum, dad and lovely wife and go pick up my bag that I left with the shuttle buses on top of the mountain.....all bags were to be collected at the main underground parking lot that was blocked out just for us.....well picking up my bag wasn't as easy as I would've thought......1 hour and a half later I spot my bag....It seems the team that was supposed to gather the bags in respective groups were overloaded...they couldn't follow and we the runners had to help unload the trucks and be lucky enough to find our bags!!
As I was complaining to some other runner about the situation and how un-organised the whole thing is, I look down and see my Air Jordan bag filled with dry clothes, socks and food!! My prrrrecious
Well that all went to waste cuz by the time I headed back to the starting line my legs were cramped up, I was wet to the bone and didn't get to strech or eat....so I thought fuck it....I'm 30 and I'm not pussying out! I give a kiss to my wife, change my t shirt and stand in line.....I'm so focused on finishing that I don't feel the pain of the past hour and a half standing around in wet clothes waiting for my bag and the 18.2kms prior to that!
35min later I finish! So in total that's 1h55min....I did it!
I walk through the finish line stands and souvenirs, where some of the helpers are like....hey I just gave you one of these.....yeah, I know...I ran again!!
At this point, I'm pretty high on andorphines and other natural stimulants so as I head home I think to myself how nice it will be to go out and have dinner with familly for my 30th and my dad's 60th....but at home as I'm streching my sore legs I remember that last night at poker my buddy's gfriend blew it by asking "so who will be there tomorow night?" followed by a long silence....didn't really hit me until now but I decide not to say anything to the sunshine of my life and follow my parents by car to the restaurant as arranged....we enter the parking lot and I recognize a shit load of cars and look at my wife in surprise.....they had reserved the entire ground level and all the people who count were there!! Vegged out on Indian food and booze until 4am......there were the usual important birthday speeches (I'm 30 and my dad turned 60 the week before), the laughter, pictures (with my new D80) and the obvious video camera....but the best part was the presents...we gathered around a table and Champagne, and every body gave their presents one at a time just like when I was 10! Some things just never change!
well that's it, I'm now 30 years old and have travelled the world, am happily married, have a sneaker addiction problem, am NOT a millionaire yet and am starting to think about running 100km races.....
Wish you all a pleasant evenig and if you're about to have dinner or lunch.....bon apétit!
