About

Sneakerplay

How it all began...

The idea behind the SP is really simple: we set out to create a positive online environment where individuals who are influenced by and influence urban culture can connect. Late last year, I was just talking on the phone with one of my close friends, Mo, and I don't remember what we were talking about but the word sneakerbeefs came up . So it all started out as a joke I said to Mo 'wouldn't it be crazy if we made a website where people could literally have sneaker battles.' From there the idea evolved into Sneakerplay, a new type of community site centered around a culture that connects all of us. We teamed up with Rob Chia (the skater turned artist turned code ninja), Mo's highschool buddy and we hammered out the service in four months. We've got nothing but love from the community from the minute we launched and we couldn't be happier about that.

There is a lot of hype behind social networks right now but to our generation it's nothing new…we practically grew up on the internet. I remember sites like AsianAvenue and BlackPlanet back in '99 had all the features of today's major social nets. I already went through the phase where you have your own page, a guest book and you can pick and choose from seizure inducing backgrounds and music and test out your basic HTML skills. So Myspace never appealed to me. There comes a point when you grow and your tastes evolve. We really wanted to do something that has never been done before; to build a community of forward thinking and style conscious individuals. And also to encourage the social aspects of the culture as opposed to all the superficiality that surrounds us. {june 2006}

Nice Kicks been a good thing, I havent been writing recently been doing some projects with some other folks. And helping my fam get back in the swing of things cuz im moving to ny. In january, I got the commander shoe from Adidas also I they asked me what I thought about signatures returning..I was for it they werent Im glad i didnt get the job there lol dont have the passion for them.
As far as the ads they are ok, the got a group of HS kids and paired them up with stars to show them what teamwork is about. I like the exposure for the brand and that the new shoe is really marvelous commander...but the creator is ok. I dont think it will make the impact in the marketplace it still wants to have because people what something different always.. something that saids T-Mac, KG, Gil, Billups, Timmy, always ...
